This is a simple informational topic to explain the ways you can get around the island. This is mean to be mostly exhaustive, but if you have a question about anything else, feel free to ask.
Walking: This is the easiest and most obvious. You can walk between places. Keep in mind when planning on walking places that while the Aina region is fairly small, it is still a region. Walking takes time. Expect to spend most of a day getting between locations in the central valley, and considerably longer than that getting between there and locations on the east or west sides. It's probably still safer than driving though.
Riding Pokemon: A Pokemon that can handle a trainer's weight can transport them between places. Keep this within reason: a Sandshrew is not going to be able to carry most people. A Skiddo can easily handle a child's weight, but would have a lot more trouble with a grown adult. If you're not sure about a specific case, ask.
Surfing: Pokemon that know Surf can carry their trainers across water. The move Surf is necessary less for the ability to swim and more to handle a person's weight while doing so. Because of this, you can get away with more than by simply riding a Pokemon. Do try to be at least a little reasonable, though. Unlike in the games, Surf does not require a badge to be used outside of battle. However, keep in mind that Kohola Island, which requires Surf to access, also requires three badges.
With regards to accessing Kohola Reef and the North Face, Surf is NOT required to make use of Dive or Waterfall. It's preferred, but there are plenty of ways to justify using one without the other.
Flying: Pokemon that know Fly can carry their trainers through the sky. The move Fly is necessary less for the ability to fly and more to handle a person's weight while doing so. Because of this, you can get away with more than by simply riding a Pokemon. Do try to be at least a little reasonable, though. As entertaining as the image of balancing on top of a Pidgey is, it's not exactly feasible. Unlike in the games, Fly does not require a badge to be used outside of battle. However, keep in mind that Sunrise Crater, which requires Fly to access, also requires three badges. Also unlike in the games, you do not need to have previously visited an area in order to fly there. However, this can not be used to skip over any other requirements for accessing an area.
Driving: Yes, cars exist in-universe, and can be used in the Aina Region. The usual age restrictions (16 for a license, 25 for car rental) apply. Driving quite a bit faster than walking or riding a Pokemon, but considerably less safe. The rough roads of Ridge Trail and A'a Trail are unpaved routes not suited for much vehicle traffic (the vehicle wrecks at the bottom of Akahele Pass didn't simply appear there), and the Hapuu Highway and Sunshower Path are narrow and very difficult to navigate by vehicle. In most cases, other methods of transportation are safer and preferable.
There are vehicle-based tours that circle the entire island or the entire east side in a day. If you absolutely need the speed of driving somewhere, those are usually the safest bet. However, most tours only spend a limited amount of time at any given stop. They have to get back within the day, after all.
Ferry: Because all of the Aina Region's towns are on or near the coastline, ferries run between each of them. You can get from any one town to any other except Hapuu Town via ferry, although this skips over all routes and anything that might be found on them. This is the easiest way to get from town to town, although it takes a lot of the fun out of adventuring. Hapuu Town cannot be accessed via ferry due to the lack of a safe landing point. Instead, small planes fly between Lani City and Hapuu Town twice a day.
