It was more of a resort than a gym, but it was still a gym nonetheless. She thought about what kind of horrors would she experience at the grand resort and it was true. Upon entering the resort itself, there was all kinds of traps and puzzles that she would need to avoid and solve as well as a couple of gym trainers…just waiting to take her on. Some of those traps in the gym were made from beach equipment and she took great care not to step on them on accident. And then, there was the puzzles which she was able to solve with ease and finally…there was the battlefield which the gym challenge would take place. The gym trainers would not quite a challenge to her at all, but her opponent as Kakahai's own gym leader would be quite tough, not to mention that the woman standing before her was not to be taken lightly. "Um…I'd like to challenge you to a battle, miss if that is entirely okay. This is my first time challenging a gym and uh…I'm ready…I hope." She spoke in a rather apprehensive tone. There was probably a lot of things that could go wrong, but she wasn't about to step away from it all. It was now or never that determined who would be left standing.

The gym leader almost wasn't standing when Isolde approached. She'd gotten up from her beach chair after hearing the sound of fighting from the gym proper behind her, and now stood out on the beach waiting for the challenger. And what a sight she was, a stunning beach beauty clad in a bikini with a mai tai in one hand and the first of three PokeBalls she planned to use in the other. "Welcome!" she said cheerfully. "Oh, is this your first gym challenge? Don't worry, you're going to be just fine. I'm Sandra, the leader here. I promise you a battle you won't forget any time soon."She turned on the spot, kicking up sand and adding a bit of extra dramatic flair (but being careful not to spill her drink in the process) as she threw the ball in her hand, revealing her first Pokemon: a Nincada. "Since this is your first time, this'll be a three-on-three battle. Send out your first Pokemon and start whenever you're ready, and give me your best shot."Music: Unova Gym Battle (remastered)Gym Challenge: Vs SandraOpponent 1: NincadaGender: Female Ability: Compound Eyes

The first Pokemon that Sandra sent out was a Nincada. Since it was a bug and a ground type as well, it was probably better to have a Water type on hand if her entire team wasn't all Grass types. At least, Sandra did give out a little encouragement to her, so it was time. "Gawain, you're up." Releasing the Pumpkaboo outside, he floated and looked down on the bug that stood before him. It was his first challenge against a gym and he was already feeling like he could sweat bullets if pumpkins ever did anyway. "Don't be nervous, Gawain... First, let's use Shadow Ball!" The Pumpkaboo formed a shadowy blob of darkness and shot it towards the Nincada. It wasn't the most super effective attack, but it would have to do for now.

Opponent 1: NincadaGender: Female Ability: Compound Eyes Health: Middling The Pumpkaboo scored a solid hit with Shadow Ball, sending the Nincada tumbling across the sand. Sandra's eyes visibly widened as she saw it, but whether that was from surprise or alarm, who could say. "Not bad, not bad," she said. If it was alarm, she had recovered pretty fast. "Ooh, this already isn't going well, though...hmm...Nincada, X-Scissor!" she called out. The little cicada-like bug flipped itself out of the sand and skittered towards the Pumpkaboo, slicing at it with her forelimbs. If the Pumpkaboo stayed in and took the hit, it would still be clear that it had come out better for the first exchange.

At least, Gawain had scored a direct hit on the Nincada as the bug stumbled back into the sand. She was getting a little confident that maybe it was going to be a little easy, but there was no time to get too confident in that regard. The gym leader would probably have a Pokemon that can take advantage of Grass type Pokemon, so she still had to be on her guard. The gym leader ordered her Nincada to use X-Scissor and the bug skittered towards the pumpkin spirit, slicing him with its forelimbs. Gawain seemed to take some damage as he shut his eyes from the pain, only to recover slightly soon after. "Let's finish this with another Shadow Ball, Gawain!" The Pumpkaboo formed another shadowy blob of darkness and shot it at the Nincada, his determination was growing stronger now that he was confident with his abilities. At any rate, this was not bad for her to try winning her first badge after all. Unless, the gym leader did have a trump card up her sleeve. Sandra visibly flinched as the Nincada was struck by another Shadow Ball. This time, there was no recovering. It was down for the count, and the count had already run out. With a small sigh, Sandra recalled it, whispering words of encouragement for next time before turning back to Isolde. "I guess I underestimated you a bit," she said, hesitating on which ball to use next. "Time for round two, then. Let's see you handle this one!"Sandra tossed out her next PokeBall, revealing a Cubone. "Cubone, Growl!" Sandra called out. The Cubone adjusted its skull helmet, then let out a low, forlorn-sounding whine that would lower the offensive capabilities of anything that heard it. Soon, the Nincada was down for the count and Gawain did a happy dance before a Cubone was sent out, a Pokemon which she had seen before in an exploration of the gravesite. The Cubone used Growl which lowered the pumpkin spirit's attack much to her dismay. That meant that the Pumpkaboo's Seed Bomb attack was probably out of the picture and plus, Cubone had extremely high defense which would make using moves that were physical much harder. "Gawain, let's try using Trick-or-Treat!" The Pumpkaboo nodded, floating over to the Cubone and playfully tried to get her to trick-or-treat. Effectively, the move would change the Cubone's type to another, so the next turn would be that Gawain could go on the offensive. ((Just for reference, Trick-or-Treat doesn't change the target's type. It adds the Ghost type to its existing typing.)) "Oh? Now there's an odd little move," Sandra said. "I can't say I know why you'd do that, but to each their own." The Pumpkaboo's Ghost attacks would be able to damage it more now at least, which would give it an option that didn't involve dealing with its lowered attack. "You've still got a lot of work ahead of you if you want to beat me, though. Cubone, Fire Punch!" The Cubone brandished its bone club as ghostly-looking flames appeared and clung to it. It then charged at the Pumpkaboo, swinging its now fire-covered club at the gourd Pokemon. Opponent 2: CuboneGender: Female Ability: Rock Head Health: Full +Ghost Type

(Oh whoops. I'll make sure to keep that in mind next time.) She certainly didn't expect the Cubone to retaliate with a super effective attack as the Pumpkaboo was hit with a Fire Punch from the Cubone's club, sending him into the air and slamming himself onto a wall. "Pumpkaboo..." Gawain weakly said as he struggled to stay afloat and he was covered in abrasions from the Cubone's attack. "Gawain, are you okay?" She asked the Pumpkaboo in a worried tone. The Pumpkaboo nodded weakly and confirmed that he was okay if not weakened considerably by the attack. "Alright, let's use Shadow Ball on the Cubone!" The gourd Pokemon began to form another shadowy blob of darkness and shot it at the Cubone, determined to fight until the end. It was rather amazing that he still had the will to fight and this time, he was willing to go down with honor should he fall to the next attack. Gawain HP: 32% Status: Healthy Notes: Attack -1 Action: Pumpkaboo used Shadow Ball! (BP - 80; STAB. 2x effective. Has a chance to lower special defense.) Opponent 2: CuboneGender: Female Ability: Rock Head Health: Poor +Ghost Type "Still in the fight, huh? I like your spirit. Let's keep this going strong right to the end," Sandra said enthusiastically. She seemed to be completely ignoring the fact that she'd already lost one Pokemon and was acting like she still had a really good chance of coming out on top. "Then we can all kick back and relax again."Sure enough, the Shadow Ball did a lot more damage than it otherwise would have. But it still wasn't enough to take the Cubone out of the fight, and it stood strong after the shadowy mass cleared. "Fire Punch again!" Sandra called out. Tongues of flame wrapped around the Cubone's club as it once again drew back and swung it hard at the Pumpkaboo.

And then Sandra's Cubone swung her flaming club at the Pumpkaboo again, earning him his defeat at the hands of a Ground type Pokemon. "You did well. You can rest easy now." She told as she recalled the fainted Pumpkaboo and contemplated the next Pokemon to send out. "Cubone's still got some fight left in her, but too bad for her, I'd still have one trick up my sleeve. Tristan, you're next." She spoke as she tossed another Pokeball and out came the Phantump who would take the fallen Pumpkaboo's place. "Let's try using Phantom Force!" She ordered as the Phantump nodded before vanished into thin air, waiting silently for the chance to strike. Well at least the battle was very much even now with both of them having two Pokemon left to take the win. Tristan HP: 100% Status: Healthy Summary: Pumpkaboo fainted. Phantump sent out. Phantump vanished into thin air.

Opponent 2: CuboneGender: Female Ability: Rock Head Health: Poor +Ghost Type "Whew, that one finally went down," Sandra said once the last attack hit and knocked out the Pumpkaboo. "You've got some pretty strong Pokemon there." She watched Isolde send out her next Pokemon, ready to react to it, then saw the Phantump and said "Oh...those guys are creepy. Cute, but creepy." And then the Phantump...vanished on the spot. "Cubone, come back for the moment," Sandra said, recalling the Cubone before the ghostly stump could reappear. "Hippopotas, take over from here!" Sandra threw out her last Pokeball, and the sand hippo Pokemon materialized on the beach in its place. The sand of the beach mixed with more spewing out of the Hippopotas's body as sudden winds whipped them up into a sandstorm. As soon as the ghostly stump was ready to strike the Cubone, Sandra switched out her Cubone and in its place was a hippo with sand spewing out of its sockets. "Now, strike!" This was not looking good at that moment as the hippo was capable of using moves that could damage the ghostly stump, but nonetheless Tristan reappeared from behind the Hippopotas and struck it with a ghostly tackle. After that attack was executed, he floated back to his trainer's side and the swirling sands made its mark on the Phantump, wounding him a little bit. All they could do now was to wait for Sandra to make a move with her Hippopotas. Tristan HP: 95% Status: Healthy Summary: Phantump struck with Phantom Force.

Opponent 3: HippopotasGender: Female Ability: Sand Stream Health: Fair [Sandstorm Counter: 2/5] [In reserve: Cubone] "Ah, I thought you might do that," Sandra said as the Phantump reappeared behind her Hippopotas and attacked it. "That's why I switched, though. Now, Bite it!" The Hippopotas lunged with alarming speed on command, opening her massive jaws wide and snapping them shut when it reached the Phantump, intending to clamp them down on the tree stump Pokemon. The move wouldn't quite be strong enough to crush the Phantump in her jaws, but one more would probably do the trick, barring anything else getting in the way. Meanwhile, the sandstorm continued swirling around the beachfront, as though fueled by the sand hippo herself.

As soon as the sand hippo clamped down its jaws on the Phantump, causing the ghostly stump to wail out in pain before he clearly showed signs of exhaustion. She hadn't expected Sandra to switch out Pokemon in that moment, but luckily, the sand hippo was weak to the Grass type as well. "Use Horn Leech on that Hippopotas." She ordered as the ghostly stump used his branch-like horns to ram at the sand hippo. If the ghostly stump failed to take down the sand hippo, she might have to use her last Pokemon to take down Sandra's Hippopotas. It really wasn't hard to take down a simple Ground-type Pokemon such as Sandra's Cubone either since her Cubone was in low health currently. The swirling sandstorm also did a bit of damage to the weakened Phantump as well, putting him over the edge of fainting mostly. Tristan HP: 29% Status: Healthy Summary: Phantump used Horn Leech.
