Name: Elise Osier Age: 19 Date of Birth: April 28 Birthplace: Cianwood City, Johto Gender: Female Sexual Orientation: Bisexual Face Claim: Fuyumi Isiru, Hyouka
Appearance: At a height of five feet and nine inches tall, Elise stands only a few inches above the average of her peers. She has a shapely body and a mostly average build that has gained slight muscle tone during her time spent at her academy's gym. Her fair skin complexion never seemed to tan much despite her time spent outdoors and strangely never seemed to sunburn very easily. Her raven black hair is straight, smooth and well-kept, reaching as far down as her waist when not tied up. While neatly kept and held up by a white hairband, she has a habit of allowing a bit to fall freely across her face. Her eyes are a pale shade of indigo-blue.
The lady has two consistent outfits that she prefers to wear. Her first consists of a black short-sleeved, tight fitting shirt, a pair of black pants and a pair of similarly colored boots. A white windbreaker jacket with Aina's Pokémon League crest sewn into the chest area is normally tied around her waist when it isn't being worn. In colder areas, her jacket is swapped out with a thicker coat with fur trimmings around its hood and her all of her normal attire is swapped out for more cold resistant clothing. Her second, more casual outfit keeps her shirt and boots, though she wears a knee length skirt and tights instead.
A few pieces remain consistent regardless of her choice of outfit. A simple white hairband adorns her head at nearly all times, only being removed in more private settings. Hanging from her neck is a silver pendant depicting a Lugia with its wings fully outstretched. The edges of the wings are golden in color and the Pokémon's eyes are two small sapphires. The pendant has value in its material composition as well as sentimentality, so Elise tends to keep the pendant hidden beneath her shirt and never removes it.
Personality: At first glance, it's easy to see that Elise leans more towards an introverted nature. Her features often rest in a neutral or uninterested expression and she has a tendency to be taciturn and to the point in her conversations with strangers. She enjoys her privacy and quieter settings, finding it easier to relax and recharge while alone. The young woman also holds an aversion to rowdier crowds. As such, she is often seen alone, with her Pokémon or with small groups of her friends and can become grumpy when she is exhausted or hasn't had time alone for a while. This doesn't necessarily mean that she is a recluse or entirely unfriendly though.
It's difficult to misinterpret Elise's character as one gets to know her. While her reserved speech can make her seem cold and leave a bad first impression at times, the trainer is a kinder personality at heart. Both insightful and perceptive, the young woman holds a strong sense of empathy and understanding for others. She doesn't like to see the world in a black and white view and generally tries to keep an open mind about most things. She is a level-headed and eerily calm individual, capable of keeping her wits about her during intense, stressful and even chaotic situations. However, she does have a curiosity about the world that can lead her to becoming more reckless or impulsive at times.
Deeper into her character, Elise can be seen as a free spirit. Having grown up in a stifled, strict and somewhat unfriendly environment, she strives to forge her own path in life that is led by her own decisions and goals rather than the ideals or perspectives of another. Otherwise, she believes that she could never grow to be her own person. This can lead her to being extremely stubborn, rebellious and even confrontational with authority figures if she feels that she's being too restricted. Having grown up in the constant eyes and scrutiny of her peers and elders, she dislikes being the center of attention and prefers to keep to the background, even if it means giving the credit of something she did to another.
Elise often views the world with a sense of idealism, though those views are peppered with cynicism as well. She prefers to see the good and value in things before the bad and likes to see things work out for the better. Tight knit friendships and trust are held in high regard and close to her heart. At a young age, however, she learned that not everyone can get along or hold the same ideals. Conflicting ideals can often tear people apart and cause conflict among others. It's something that the young woman has accepted as a basic part of human nature and something that gives people their individuality. The world would be boring if everyone's mindsets and ideals were the same, after all.
That isn't to say that she never disagrees or have problems with others. Her somewhat sobered views of the world has drastically narrowed her patience for people with haughty attitudes. She despises people who would use position or power to belittle or harm others or flaunt their deeds or position for fame. While her introversion tends to prevent her from speaking out against such people, she will still likely act much colder and meaner towards them. Friends and family have described her as unforgiving and sometimes vindictive towards people she holds grudges against, such as those who betray her trust or those that have the aforementioned attitude. To send her over the edge of anger would take a lot of stress and instigation, but it certainly isn't impossible.

History: Elise was born to a couple based in Cianwood City of the Johto region. Both her mother and her father were doctors who ran a small clinic in town. Her father was well known throughout the region for his skills in diagnostics and medicines. He was often visited by traveling trainers or patients from other cities around Johto seeking treatment for major or rarer ailments. Her mother was a brilliant mind, easily able to match her husband's expertise and knowledge in diagnostics. However, she specialized in psychology rather than medicine and most often let her husband take the forefront in running the clinic. Together, their small clinic played a large part in keeping the small coastal city healthy and was awarded many honors by the city for their work. Elise was the only child her bother bore.
During her early childhood, Elise was mostly looked after by her mother. She almost never saw her father, who was almost always busy with his patients, paperwork and whatever else his duties at the clinic or in town called for. When both of her parents were busy with work, a friend of her mother's, a well known local Pokémon trainer, looked after her. The child's exposure to Pokémon was minimal in the clinic since the only ones allowed out of their pokéballs were the ones being treated. However, she was almost always surrounded by Pokémon while she was being babysat. Her babysitter's Gardevoir in particular was very friendly towards her. The psychic-and-fairy type would often use its psychic powers to play with and entertain her and quickly became the toddler's first friend.
Fast forwarding to her early school years, Elise's life would take a turn when her parents adopted a girl only a few years younger than her. The young child had been orphaned only a few years after her birth for reasons unknown, a situation that her mother strongly empathized with. The elder child took an immediate disliking to her younger sibling, who always seemed to get more attention than she did in the weeks following her adoption. She would often make it a point to distance herself from her adoptive sister and exclude her from the games that she and her friends played. Her behavior often got her scolded by her parents and her babysitter, which only made the child more bitter.
It was around this time that Elise saw her first Pokémon battle in person. On a day that she and her sister were being looked after by their babysitter, their caretaker took them to the local Pokémon gym. Their babysitter's connections won them a seat beside the ring where they watched as a Pokémon trainer challenged the gym leader. The battle was a spectacular and fierce display, earning the young spectator's admiration as she watched the Pokémon do battle. In the end, the trainer emerged victorious and earned the gym's badge. The battle planted Elise's dream of becoming a Pokémon trainer herself, something that she was more than eager to tell her parents when she got home later that day.
However, it quickly became apparent that her father had different plans for her. At ten, her father quickly denied his daughter permission to acquire her own Pokémon. Instead, he continued her education, steering its direction toward the medical field so that she could inherit their family's clinic when he and her mother retired. Her father's iron fisted decree left the young girl saddened. While she had developed an interest in the medical sciences as well due to its prominence in her life, her dream of becoming a Pokémon trainer suddenly seemed like an impossibility to her; an unattainable dream. Her mother argued for her sake, but eventually gave in after a heated argument with her husband on the subject.
In the following years, many of her friends were given or caught Pokémon and she and her younger sister were the only two without one. Without a Pokémon of her own, Elise was often left out of the games and fell out with several of her close friends. With her father's high expectations and the eyes of both her father and his colleagues on her, she was left with little else other than to concentrate on her studies. These experiences gave her empathy for her adoptive sibling and the way she had treated her in the past. Her attitude towards her young sibling quickly turned around and she became very protective of her, defending her from bullies often. She never did so directly though, always pulling them aside where her sister could not see.
As she progressed into her teen years, it became apparent that more than just her parents were paying attention to her progress. Due to her parents' fame in the region's medical industry, many medical schools were keeping tabs on her grades, eagerly awaiting their chance to invite her to their academies. With the extra pressure to succeed building up, Elise retreated into a shell and became more introverted and reserved. She was stuck between the desire to please her parents and her own hopes and dreams. As a result, she and her father began to drift apart, often getting into squabbles and arguments and generally being at odds with each other. Her mother tried her best to keep their relationship mended, but there was only so much patchwork that she could do to keep them on good terms.
However, Elise found a friend in her old babysitter, who would often let her visit to get away from the stifling atmosphere of her home. Behind her father's back, the teen began to learn the basics of Pokémon and Pokémon training from the older trainer. These discreet lessons occurred a few times a week, something that Elise managed to keep secret from both of her parents. She learned much during this time, but was never able to get hands-on practice due to the secrecy of their sessions. These sessions served not only to teach Elise, but to forge a close bond of friendship with her new mentor.
Eventually, she received an invitation to a prestigious medical school located in Goldenrod City. Her father immediately accepted the invitation without consulting either his wife or Elise. Their eldest daughter did not take the news well. On the night before her departure, an argument broke out between her and her father about her future and what she wanted for herself. Unable to change her father's mind, the young woman was left just as conflicted with herself as before. The rest of the night had a cold and tense atmosphere. The following morning, Elise departed from her home and boarded the ferry to her new school without saying a word to her family.
The next handful of Elise's years were spent attending the medical academy, studying both human and Pokémon medicine. She made several friends among the academy students and even befriended one of her professors, who happened to be a doctor who worked in the connected Goldenrod hospital. In a mix of respect for her father and her friendship towards her student, this professor offered Elise a chance to work as one of her nurses. She learned much though this hands on training and even began to enjoy her work. Eventually, her professor acknowledged that she planned to make Elise her new assistant when she graduated the following year.
She wrote to her sister and mother often. The latter had quickly forgiven her daughter for sneaking out like she had and the two stayed on good terms. Her mother would visit on occasion as well, though her visits were never more than a day or a weekend long though due to her busy schedule. However, her relationship with her father quickly fell to shambles after he sent his daughter a sternly and rudely worded letter that threatened to disown her if she ever did anything like that again.
Yet, she still yearned to leave the confining walls of the academy and her father's expectations to become a Pokémon trainer. When she wasn't doing her school work or working as a nurse in the connected Goldenrod Hospital, she could often be found at the local Pokémon gym. Here, she spectated the battles between the gym trainers and the occasional challenger and lent her skills to anyone injured. On occasion, she was able to use rental Pokémon practice the knowledge that she had learned from her mentor in Cianwood. Word of this reached home though and her father made it clear that he did not approve of her time spent at the gym. Elise, however, began to ignore her father's judgments and wishes; a move that received mixed reactions from her friends and peers.
A few months before her graduation, her old babysitter arrived to visit her. Her mentor had often visited her and joined her at the gym, but the offer that she brought this time took Elise by surprise. After making some conversation and catching up with each other, the trainer mentioned that she would be moving to her old home region of Aina. With blessings from her mother and without her father knowing, she offered her old ward a chance to join her. It was, as she pointed out, a chance to begin her dream of becoming a Pokémon trainer. Much to her shock, even her professor urged her to take the offer and promised to keep her decision a secret and destination from her father, as she knew that the student longed to become a trainer more than a doctor.
Elise agreed to the offer and was boarding a ferry to the exotic region within a few days.
The newly liberated young woman spent her first few weeks in the new region living with her old babysitter. She used the time to buy the necessary supplies and equipment that she would need for her travels and learn some of the basic lore, areas and culture of the unfamiliar region. Once she felt that Elise adequately was prepared, her mentor presented her with one last gift: two pokéballs, each containing the offspring from two of the Pokémon that she used to play with as a child.
After a heartfelt thanks and farewell, Elise set off into the unknown region to finally live her dream of becoming a Pokémon trainer. She was finally free to live her life as she always wanted, away from her father's tyrannical expectations and rules.
