Name: Akira Mikan
Age: Fifteen
Date of Birth: November 21
Birthplace: Johto Region; Blackthorn City
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Trainer Class: Battler
Face Claim: Makoto Kikuchi; from The Idolm@ster
Appearance:
Akira is pretty much average for her age when it comes to height, coming up to about 5'4". She has somewhat short black hair, which is always a little unkempt, with a few loose strands hanging out here and there. Her eyes are a soft brown color.
Overall, she is incredibly tomboyish-looking (even though her personality is quite girly), and, depending on what she wears, it can be hard to tell whether she's a girl or a boy. The fact that she is, much to her chagrin, pretty much flat-chested doesn't help either.
As far as her outfits go, when she's not in class, she will usually wear pretty much whatever she happens to see first, having never really cared about keeping up with the latest fashions.
Height: 5'4"
Distinguishing Features: Though they remain hidden under her clothes, she has multiple small scars on her body. Most of them are on her back, though there are also a number of them on her chest, shoulders and upper arms. For the most part, they don't really stand out, and they're small enough that they can be easy to miss if one isn't looking closely.
Personality: Akira, through friendly and kind-hearted, is also a bit reserved, and often prefers to keep to herself. Though saying she's anti-social would be a bit of a stretch, it isn't necessarily inaccurate, either. More often than not, she has to be badgered into doing anything that doesn't involve sitting and reading a book, or training her Pokemon. Though, in the end, she usually does end up enjoying herself...it's just getting her to actually do something that's the issue. As mentioned above, she is friendly, and will often greet others with a smile when approached. However, she herself has difficulty approaching others, and she tends to be rather awkward when trying to strike up a conversation.
In fact, the only time she seems to exhibit any sort of confidence is when she is training and battling with her Pokemon. Having literally grown up around them, she knows quite a lot about them, and it shows in her training. Usually, she seeks to find ways for a Pokemon to work around its weaknesses, rather than simply try to overcome them...which is something she knows all too well is easier said than done. While she is skilled and somewhat knowledgeable when it comes to breeding, she shines the most when battling. Additionally, she enjoys meeting other trainers' Pokemon, making it an effective way of getting to know her, since she becomes a bit less reserved.
Of course, there is a reason that she is the way she is. As it turns out, she used to be fairly cheerful and energetic, but an incident from when she was little (see her History for the full details) has left a number of scars, both physical and emotional. The most prominent one being that she is terrified of Spearow and Fearow. If she so much as thinks she sees one, even from a distance, she will, at best, freeze in terror. If it moves in closer, then she'll start to panic, and her common sense will basically go out the window as she makes a clumsy and desperate attempt to get as far away from it as humanly possible. As for the physical scars, she tends to avoid the subject whenever anyone asks about them, due to the memory of how she got them still being a bit painful.
Lastly, and on a much lighter note, when it comes to romance, Akira couldn't be more awkward. She's terrible at hiding her feelings, so when she has a crush on someone, it tends to be painfully obvious. That said, she'd very self-conscious, and a bit lacking in confidence, so it can take her a while to actually act on her feelings; even when there's signs that they might actually like her back, she hesitates simply because she's worried if she'll be good enough for them. Regardless, if one can look past her insecurities, they'll find themselves with a very loving and loyal partner.

History: Akira was born to what would have been a single mother, her father having died while her mother was still pregnant. However, there were complications with the birth, and her mother passes away shortly after she was born. With no other known relatives, she was put up for adoption. She was, within the next couple months, adopted by a pair of women.
They were lesbian lovers who lived in the Johto Region...Misaki, a trainer that loved exploring, and would often find things that could be sold for a reasonable price. The other was Eriko, a breeder who made most of the money that they lived off of through her breeding/Pokemon daycare services. When she wasn't off exploring, Misaki would help Eriko with her work, and the two of them lovingly raised Akira as though she were their own flesh and blood.
Akira's childhood was one full of happiness. One of the few blessings about the death of her mother was that it happened almost literally right after she was born, so she doesn't even remember her biological mother. While there was no question that she was adopted, this still allowed her to live her life without the angst that usually comes from the death of a parent. She spent most of her days helping Eriko out in her barn, taking care of Pokemon and helping raise them.
Because of this, she is fairly knowledgeable about most species of Pokemon, despite having never actually trained any of them. And at night, she listened to Misaki's stories about her various explorations. As with many children her age, it wasn't long before she began to show an interest in training Pokemon...considering how she was literally surrounded by them when growing up, this came as a surprise to absolutely no one.
Around the age of nine, she began going with Misaki on some of the less dangerous of her expeditions. She even got to borrow a few of Misaki's Pokemon. There, she got her first taste of battles and eagerly awaited the day that she'd be old enough to go on a journey and train Pokemon of her own. There was, however, an incident that took place, which left multiple scars, both physical and emotional.
She was with Misaki, exploring a nearby forest. As it just so happened, she was carrying a somewhat large toy robot with her, which she had received as a gift earlier and was quite fond of. However, as it was especially shiny, it just so happened to attract a flock of Spearow that had made the area into their territory. There were at least ten of them, all of whom were lead by a single Fearow. All of the Spearow, with no warning at all, swarmed the girl, pecking and scratching at her with their beaks and talons, while the Fearow hovered over them, watching in in an intimidating manner.
When Misaki realized what was going on, she immediately jumped into action, sending out a Tyranitar to quickly drive them away. Unfortunately, the damage had already been done. Not only was she badly cut up and bleeding everywhere, but, just to add insult to injury, they had succeeded in stealing the shiny toy. Regardless, Misaki immediately rushed the girl to the nearest hospital. Luckily, though they were serious, her injuries weren't life-threatening.
Unfortunately, once her physical wounds were healed, it quickly became apparent that the incident had left a severe emotional scar. She had developed a deep fear of Spearow and Fearow, something her mothers discovered the hard way when Eriko took one in for breeding. When Akira saw it, she flew into a blind panic. She was only eleven when this happened, and yet despite the trauma she went through, she was still determined to go off on her own.
Understandably, Misaki and Eriko were reluctant to allow Akira to go off, especially given what happened. Eventually, they reached a compromise; wait for a few years so that she can make fully sure that she really wants to do this, and, if she is still wanting to go when that time rolls around, they'll let her; no questions asked. While she didn't like the extra long wait, Akira agreed. The next few years flew by way too fast, and Akira's passion did not waver. Thus, her parents admitted defeat.
Thus, as one last favor to their daughter, they booked a trip for her to the Aina Region. Feeling that it would be far more exciting to explore a completely new region as they had done when they were trainers, this region in particular caught their attention. Either way, they supplied her with everything she'd need for the journey, up to and including a freshly-hatched Tepig and Aron that Eriko had bred, and soon, she was off.
Starter Pokemon: Tepig (Flame Charge | Assurance | Rollout | Odor Sleuth) Aron (Metal Claw | Rock Tomb | Headbutt | Iron Defense)
Additional Info: Though she doesn't really seem like the type, she's actually a rather skilled cook. It's just that she doesn't have many chances to show off her skill, especially now that she's traveling from place to place in Aina.

First time I've used something other than Paranatural for mod images in a long while. Let's see how it goes.
