Marin did not know towns like this even existed until she came to Aina. In Unova, the majority of the cities were just that, cities: big, populated, and extravagant. This was like a suburb, or one of those cute, themed shopping districts. Small, quaint, with rustic beauty that made up for its sheer lack of entertainment. Seriously, what did people do around here? Marin appreciated the small time vibe she was getting, it made her feel cozy and safe.
Passing a few pleasant faces, she snacked on her kabob of grilled pineapple, enjoying the scenery. The huts were made of thatch, and the dirt road snaking between them from Happu Highway was traveled by the occasional bicycler or hiker. Few stopped by, but most passed through as if Happu Town did not even exist. It was a pretty tiny spot on Aina's map, now that she was looking at it. She bit down on the stick, chewing on it subconsciously as she read the map to herself quietly. The acidic sweetness of her snack still burned her tongue, and she considered buying one or two more. They were damn good for fruit on a stick.
"Mmm?" she hummed with interest, noticing a grass gym was in the area. That'd be a breeze. Her team was souped up for the challenge, but Marin hesitated; she had never challenged anyone to a formal battle before, let alone one with a gym leader. She gnawed on the kabob stick nervously. "Maybe another day..." she mumbled .
Spitting her stick on the ground and packing her map away, Marin decided the best way to cushion her anxiety was to snack on more of that grilled pineapple. She backtracked to the food kiosk, purchasing two more kabobs from the elderly tanned man with the impressive mustache. She nodded her thanks to him, eagerly biting down on the pineapple. She licked her lips, enjoying its sweetness...
"Hm?" She noticed someone new on the road in town now.
Her red eyes stared at her intently through her green bangs. Marin bit another piece off her kabob, chewing it slowly as she blatantly checked the girl out from the sidewalk before the line of kiosks. She rolled her uneaten kabob between her fingers thoughtfully as she approached the girl, curious. Marin assumed she was a battler, for it seemed the girl had the weary look of long day's travel; only Pokemon trainers had this look. Still, she was cute, but not in the girlish, babyfaced kind of way... It was more tongue-in-cheek. Subtle.
"You look hungry," Marin observed, hovering beside the girl, head tilted. Her words were muffled by the stick in her mouth, which she kept balanced between her teeth as she spoke. "Grilled pineapple?"
She offered the kabob to her, looking genuine in her gesture; Marin's kindness had no string attached. All she wanted was to get to know the girl, and the cost of this tasty snack would be worth it... hopefully.
