Selena Valero is a prideful woman, to say the least. Some might even call her a vain woman. She takes great pride in her beautiful appearance and is not beyond using said good looks to manipulate others. While she prefers the company of other women, she finds it easy to charm men into doing whatever she wants them to do and so doesn't mind leading them on in order to get them do what she wants them to before slamming the metaphorical door shut in their faces. In this regard, she can be quite callous and cruel, caring very little for anyone other than herself. Perhaps oddly though, she actually has a habit of donating to charities in various regions. Whether this is to ease guilt upon her consciousness or some random whim, Selena can be surprisingly generous when she actually feels like it. Though outside of such occasions, she is quite greedy and even somewhat stingy about what she spends her money on, only paying for the highest quality she can obtain.

In truth, Selena Valero is an international criminal, but one that has remained ever out of reach of the long arm of the law. A smuggler and a renowned gambler who is said to have never been beaten, the young woman from Johto has amassed a reputation among the criminal community and among various police forces for the way that she manages to never be tried for any crime at all. Rather, the girl is always released shortly after arrest and no charges that have been placed upon her have ever managed to stick. Conveniently, the evidence against her always has a tendency to turn up "missing" and officers are confounded by how it happens. Thrown together with her propensity for gambling and the way charges never stick to her, she has thus begun to be called the "Queen of Luck". While police use the nickname derogatorily many criminals use it as a term of respect or amusement when discussing the latest charges that have ultimately come to be dismissed against the woman of many names, Selena Valero.
In more recent times, she has come to base most of her current business in the region of Aina. With it's slow progress toward modernization, it holds many resources within the wilder parts of the land, including a variety of Pokemon that appear in a number of other regions as well. Ultimately though, it has also given rise to various criminal elements that have become active in more recent times. And it is these rising criminal elements that Selena opts to do business with, making herself a favored transporter for more illicit goods, as well as poached Pokemon.
