The following are some rules and information regarding how breeding works. There's admittedly quite a bit to keep in mind, but there shouldn't be too much of a problem as long as you follow everything correctly.
Rules for Breeding First, there's the process itself. It's fairly straightforward, but there are some things you'll need to know before you begin.
1) To get things started, all you have to do is make a post, saying which Pokemon you wish to breed. Naturally, they must be of the opposite gender, and in the same Egg Group. If the none of these criteria are met (or if one of the Pokemon are unable to breed for whatever reason), then your request will be denied.
2) Any Eggs produced will have a 50/50 chance of being either species, as opposed to the games, where the species is always the same as the mother. Egg Moves, likewise, can be inherited from either parent, though only two will be inherited at a time. Lastly, if both of the parents have their Hidden Ability, then the child may have theirs as well. If only one of the parents has their Hidden Ability, then it's a 50/50 chance.
3) Results that are influenced by items will still apply. For example, breeding a Pikachu or Raichu while holding a Light Ball guarantees that the offspring will be a Pichu that knows Volt Tackle, regardless of who the other parent is.
4) Although breeding is free, there are some risks and limits. First, there is a 40% chance that the process will fail, and no Egg will be produced. It's unfortunate, but it does happen. Secondly, it may only be done once a week. However, if you are a Breeder, things are noticably better. Not only are they allowed to breed twice a week, but the chance of failure is reduced to only 15%.
5) Whether or not the process succeeded, a Pokemon who participated in a breeding will need time to rest. As such, they cannot participate in a another breeding for at least one week. On a similar note, a Pokemon who has hatched from an Egg cannot participate in a breeding until they have matured a bit, this takes about two weeks.
6) If you wish, you may borrow another trainer's Pokemon and breed them with your own. However, because they don't belong to you, there is a 10% increase to a breeding's chance of failure.
7) Rare Pokemon can be bred. However, in the interest of keeping the site from being flooded with a bunch of Pokemon that should be...well...rare, there are two major limits. One, rare Pokemon may only be bred once a month. Second, attempts to breed rare Pokemon have a 60% chance of failing instead of 40 (30% instead of 15 for Breeders).
Hatching an Egg And now that you have your Egg, you're probably wondering what you need to do in order to hatch it, as well as what doing so entails. It's rather simple, actually;
1) For the Egg to hatch, you must make ten IC posts. However, they must be made in threads that started after you received the Egg. After all, the order of threads more or less determines the timeline for your character. It wouldn't make sense for you to be incubating an Egg you don't have.
2) In each post, you must have your character interact with the Egg in some way. It doesn't have to be anything overly-elaborate...hell, I'll even accept it if they're simply holding the Egg. But, simply mentioning the Egg is randomly sitting on your desk without your character doing anything with/to it won't fly. And any attempts to count a post toward hatching it without even mentioning the Egg will be met with a massive "HELL NO"
3) If you have more than one Egg, you're welcome to try and hatch both of them at the same time...though, it might look a little silly to randomly be carrying two or more Eggs around.
4) When an Egg hatches, there are several things that are up to the member whose character the Egg hatched. Their Ability, Gender, personalty and Normal Moves are all up to you. The only things that are determined ahead of time is the species of the child, whether or not the child can have their Hidden Ability, and if the child has any Egg Moves. In all three cases, the mod will inform you when you hatch the Egg.
5) Lastly, if any of your Pokemon have either Flame Body or Magma Armor as their ability, then the number of threads needed to hatch the Egg is cut in half, making it only five posts. However, the only condition for this is that the Pokemon in question must be in your party during each of these posts. Also, if you have more than one Pokemon with either Ability, this effect does not stack. So...yeah. That's pretty much all there is to it as far as breeding Pokemon is concerned. If there are any questions, feel free to PM me or one of the other mods. Otherwise, have at it.
