Rising High [Gym Challenge]

Any resident of Lani City could tell you where the Flying Gym was located in the city. Even those simply stepping out of the airport could see it as one of the first few sites within viewing distance. So when Maria had decided to go ahead and challenge a Gym of the Aina League, the Flying Gym was the first place she decided to head for. It had proved a bit tricky to navigate through the man-made obstacles of the large jet that had been converted into a maze for trainers to navigate through. But ultimately, it was a relatively easy one to figure out as well. When she approached the emergency exit, the pink-haired trainer slid down the emergency slide and onto the pavement of the runway. There in the distance she could see the Gym Leader, preparing for the latest challenger to step through his jet and onto the tarmac.

For her part, Maria thought back to the team she'd selected for this battle. Each Gym only fought 3-on-3, so it made numbers not matter. What did matter was the abilities of your team. And for her part, Maria had chosen Murder, Racketeer, and Jaywalking. Her Sneasel's frost empowered attacks would be quite effective on the Flying types, as well as her Elekid's electrifying moves. Too bad she didn't really have a third who'd be particularly effective, but that Flying Gem she'd got from the job involving the graveyard would see usage with her Noibat. Eventually though, her walk came to an end and she stood before Gym Leader himself.

"Hey. I'm here to challenge for the badge." Maria gave a brief wave.

The gym leader gave a tired wave back as yet another challenger approached. His attention was focused on the young woman who had just slid out of the plane's emergency exit, but he didn't seem to be completely alert. "Right to the point, aren't you?" he responded. "Good for you. I don't like drawing things out. Let's go ahead and get started, then. I am Cielo, the Flying Gym leader.

"Since it seems like this is your first Gym challenge," Cielo continued, giving no indication of how he knew that. Maybe all the leaders compared notes on who all had been where. "We'll each use three Pokemon." He pulled a Pokeball from inside his jacket and threw it skyward. An Emolga emerged from it, hovering in the air above the runway. "You can take the first move, whenever you're ready.

"Maria." The pink-haired trainer replied with her name as well after the introduction. She may not like dealing with other people, but she wasn't a complete social idiot. Eying the Emolga that Cielo had called forth Maria began to think over which of her Pokemon would be best. Racketeer was right out for the moment. Jaywalking wouldn't be that effective given it's electrical typing. So that left only one option. Maria reached into a pocket of her hoodie and withdrew Murder's pokeball.

She tossed it casually in the air herself before the Sneasel appeared upon the runway with a cry of it's name. "Hone Claws!" Murder began to sharpen his claws, Maria already contemplating how best to deal with the electrifying flying rodent.

"Ice, again?" Cielo asked himself as Maria sent out a Sneasel to fight him. "One of these days..." He seemed to be thinking of something, although it was hard to tell what. Whatever the case, he wasn't about to give in just because of an ice Pokemon with overwhelming offensive capabilities. "Emolga, Nuzzle!" he called out. The flying electric rodent immediately zipped through the air, cheeks sparking, as it approached the Sneasel. Failing anything like an emergency switch or defensive move, it would cling to the Pokemon for a second, rubbing against it and letting the sudden burst of electricity do its work.
